Kevin the Collie Visits his Dog Friendly Local

Another good night at the pub - Mum and Dad took me to the Famous Royal Oak, one of the most friendly pubs around. I walk around off the lead, mixing with the customers as I choose.
Obviously this is only possible for a well behaved dog after training! We met a very nice young Irish couple, but we forgot to get their names. They live in Muswell Hill as well so I will catch them next time. No food available last night so we had to make do with crisps - yum!
PS Hana asked me about crips - there is a picture above. My other fave snacks are prawn crackers: picture here. Dad gets Prawn Crackers with a Chinese Takeaway.

    What’s a crisp?

That is our name for Potato Chips - you know what the English are like … Peanuts are the same, I think but I am not allowed to eat them cos I might choke.
My other fave human snack is Prawn Crackers, do you get those?

Prawn Cracker? My momma says she doesn’t know what that is and says it sounds weird. Is that a cracker with a prawn on it or a cracker that has prawn flavor or a cracker you find in the water where prawns live? I have Canadian friends who have potato chips that are ketchup flavored. Sounds nasty, even though it’s really just like french fries (do you call these “chips” or “crisps” too?) with ketchup on them. I tried them and they surprisingly taste pretty darn good!

Hana, You are missing out. Prawn crackers are also called Shrimp Crackers, they are deep fried, made of flour, flavoured with fish, prawns or vegetables. I’ve put a picture on the post. They are really yummy and will not catch a doggie’s delicate throat..

I know what prawn crackers are!! Here they are known as shrimp chips and are generally like a Chinese potato chip, well, kind of. We like them, but we don’t have them often. Hmmm… maybe I should make a trip to the store!! That’s neat your pub has shrimp chips!

Oops. I just noticed you said you get the prawn crackers at the Chinese Takeaway, and not your pub. By the way, over here we don’t say “Chinese Takeaway.” We say “Chinese Takeout”, however when we do takeout, it’s usually just fortune cookies they give. Do your prawn crackers come wrapped individually in Chinese Takeaway? How many do you get?

Whe you get prawn crackers they are in a big paper or polythene bag, with hundreds of crackers inside - well I can’t count, actually so not sure. Mum and Dad throw them up for me to catch, it is great. We don’t get Fortune Cookies usually: you would have to go to Chinatown in Soho for that, we usually stay local

PS Funny how our humans speak the same language but so many things are different?

Our prawn crackers (shrimp chips) usually come from the grocery store in a plasticy bag, not paper. There are never enough shrimp chips in the bag. I will try to find a picture so you can see the bag. Or, the shrimp chips come with cooked peking duck at the Chinese restaurants. If they come with the peking duck, there aren’t many of them, plus they get a little soggy since they are sitting on cooked duck.
