Dog Allergy Remedy

I have been having trouble with my skin allergy again this year: it became much worse when the warm weather began and I have been wearing a t-shirt when I am sitting around, to prevent me from scratching. There are no photos of me in the t-shirt: far too embarrassing! Mum and Dad believe there is no point in taking antibiotics for atopy continually, all they do is relieve the symptoms of the illness – not the cause. We have changed my dog food diet twice now in the hope that this will help me in the long term.

Itch and Scratch

Yes it is the dog allergy season again. I have been very itchy since the weather turned unseasonably warm a few weeks ago, and this week I have been very scratchy. Mum thinks I am going to have be get my fur clipped for the summer, as the vet really cannot do anything to clear the allergy up.

Dog Food Recall – what is safe?

The terrible situation at Menu Foods is a shock for dog and cat owners in the US. As you probably know, here in the UK brands like Burns, James Wellbeloved and Wagg are popular because they are not made under license – they have been developed by their manufacturers to meet a need. Burn’s dry dog food is my current choice. It is made from natural ingredients only, and was developed by a veterinary surgeon who saw a link between diet and chronic dog ailments and allergies. If you live outside the UK and you have a similar recommendation, please leave a comment.

Dog Diet

I was worried when I read about rat poison being found in dog food in the US, as far as we can tell the problem does not affect us in the UK – yet. I switched to Burns Dry Dog Food just over two weeks ago, because it should help improve my skin allergy. I am eating the Lamb and Rice variety: this is supposed to be the best for dogs with allergies. The trouble is, I love leftovers so I often get some nice spicy food (curry is my favourite). By comparison I find my dry dog food a little dull! But the itching has been very bad in the past few weeks so Mum says we must persist.

Skin Allergy Update – Itchy Dog

I have been a bit quiet recently, we were very busy moving Mum’s things out of her house. We spent four nights there while she was packing and guess what? My skin allergy got much worse again! Mum’s house has fitted carpets nearly everywhere. She noticed my allergy seemed much better while I stayed at Dad’s place, with its stripped wooden floors. My allergy had definitely improved while we stayed at Dad’s and I was hardly scratching at all, but we still did not know if this was just a result of the medication. The vet had told us that he sees more dogs with allergies than ever before, and it costs a lot to get tests to find out the cause. Mum said even if we find out the cause, we might not be able to remove the irritant – if I am allergic to grass, for example. She thought that I might be allergic to dust mites, and my symptoms seem to back that up. She has been going round with a hoover and fluffy duster since we moved to Dad’s, and of course I have had another bath with Malaseb shampoo. I am getting rather used to being bathed now. We hope to keep blogging now we are settled so why not bookmark my blog or subscribe to my feed.
