The biggest attraction in Las Vegas is still the legendary Caesars Palace. Built in 1965, it has facilities that you can only dream of at other places. The hotel is situated at the heart of the famous Las Vegas strip, close to all the top sights in Vegas. The hotel has a superb pool area surrounded by Roman architecture where you can soak up the sun or splash in one of the several outdoor pools.

Mum seems to be enjoying herself when she gets involved in repairing things in the house, or using a paintbrush. Last week she bought a new house that a family is going to live in, and when she arrived her tool set looked as if she worked at a body shop supplies depot. There she was with hammers, screwdrivers, paint and varnish plus her cleaning products to make the place shine. I was left with Nan, or my hair would have spoilt all her hard work!

If you get more than one pet owner together, the conversation is likely to turn to vets’ fees and Pet Insurance before too long. Nearly every time Mum takes me out we meet someone else who has had chronic illnesses or allergies as I have done. We took out insurance when I first came to live here and we did not claim during the first year, then in the second year I got and ear infection and we claimed for the vet’s costs.

The company we were insured with was supposed to be a specialist in Pet Insurance, but they were certainly not specialised in working quickly. It took three months of letters backwards and forwards before they agreed to pay the claim. Then another letter arrived, and we ripped it open expecting the cheque. No – the letter just said they agreed to settle! The cheque took another three months to arrive, and by then the policy was due for renewal. Needless to say we did not renew with them. Then we found out M&S are now doing Pet Insurance, it is much better to go with a company that’s well known for quality and service. I still hope to stay well, of course but it is nice to know that the claim will be handled properly if we do need the insurance.

Have I told you the cautionary tale of my Nan’s new teak outdoor furniture? Mum bid for it on eBay and got a table and four comfortable chairs for a really good price. Mum and Dad and I went to the lady’s house to collect it. She had six cats – so I was not allowed to go inside with them. All went well until they tried to put the table in the car. Guess – it did not fit! Dad is going to go back with his car and if that does not work, then Mum is taking a saw and she will shave the side off.

We had a few friends over yesterday evening and the conversation moved over all the usual topics – films, books, places to visit, holidays, music, dogs. You get the idea? It does not matter whether the guests are all the same age or from different age groups, these subjects give everyone an area of common interest where everyone can participate equally.

Mum keeps building flat pack furniture at Nan’s house and this has been a dangerous experience for me! I like to keep an eye on the work, so I find a nice little cosy corner where I can snooze and watch at the same time. A couple of times I have snuggled up too close to the half-built furniture, but this week things went too far. Mum put a new chest in the spot where I sleep so that I can be close to her bed. I was NOT amused! I tried to stage a doggie sit-down protest but Mum just laughed and grabbed her camera.
