I was worried when I read about rat poison being found in dog food in the US, as far as we can tell the problem does not affect us in the UK – yet. I switched to Burns Dry Dog Food just over two weeks ago, because it should help improve my skin allergy. I am eating the Lamb and Rice variety: this is supposed to be the best for dogs with allergies. The trouble is, I love leftovers so I often get some nice spicy food (curry is my favourite). By comparison I find my dry dog food a little dull! But the itching has been very bad in the past few weeks so Mum says we must persist.

Worrying news from the US and Canada last week was a limited pet food recall involving MenuFoods, a Canadian supplier. At first the problem appeared to involve wet foods only. But this week there have been more reports of deaths from kidney failure. Tests have shown that aminopterin, a rat poison, is the culprit, but it’s still not clear how it ended up in the cat and dog food. The name ‘Menu Foods’ may not be familiar but they hold the licences for many major brands on sale in the US, Canada and Mexico. I will keep you posted as soon as I know more.

I have a belated birthday present – it is my very own web domain! I know you can’t eat a domain name, so I got some sausages as well. This blog now has its own domain name, www.top-dog-tips.com. No longer am I a mere Blogspot dog blogger, I am now a doggie netrepreneur. Apparently more dogs and their owners will be able to find me if I have my own domain. We are still maintaining our main website, I hope you can take a few minutes to visit as the website is where we write the longer stories on dog diet and ailments.

You may have noticed I have not been wearing a bandana lately, because I kept losing them! We buy them in the market usually but the fabric is thick when you try to tie the ends and they work loose eventually. Mum can sew – a bit – and she decided to think about making me some. This means a better choice of fabric: i don’t want anything girlie, and I like reds and greens. As soon as she makes one I will get a photo taken.
