There have been reports of dozens of pets dying from kidney failure after eating the tainted food, but estimates are that the final total could be hundreds of deaths, with thousands more illnesses. On 16 March Menu Foods recalled 42 brands of cat food and 53 brands of dog food manufactured on certain dates. Later the company broadened the recall to all its “cuts and gravy” style products, regardless of date code.
